Twenty years ago a one carat Fancy Intense Internally Flawless Yellow Diamond would have sold for
approximately $70,000.00 a carat, today that same diamond would be worth $500,000.00. In fact, on November 1995 at Sotheby's Auction House in Geneva a 7.37 carat Fancy Intense Purplish Yellow Diamond sold for $819,201 a carat. The highest price ever paid per carat for a colored diamond was $1.3 million per carat. It was a 3.73 carat Fancy Vivid Yellow sold at Christies Auction House on May 16, 2008 for $4.95 million.
